Its unique methodology incorporates robust Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) screening, leading to the exclusion of certain entities. Specifically, companies involved in controversial weapons, those with a 'CCC' MSCI ESG Rating (or no rating), or deriving significant revenue from tobacco, conventional or nuclear armaments, civilian firearms, thermal coal, unconventional/Arctic oil and gas extraction, and palm oil are systematically omitted. Furthermore, any issuer with an MSCI Controversies Score of zero is disqualified. The index also prioritizes a reduced greenhouse gas intensity compared to its underlying benchmark.
