Company overview
Braskem S.A. specializes in the production and global distribution of thermoplastic resins, operating through three distinct geographical divisions: Brazil, the United States and Europe, and Mexico. The Brazilian division offers a comprehensive portfolio. It manufactures and markets essential chemical feedstocks such as ethylene, polymer and chemical-grade propylene, butadiene, and aromatic compounds including benzene, toluene, and xylenes. This segment also supplies various fuels like automotive gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas, alongside intermediate chemicals such as cumene. Its production extends to aliphatics, aromatics, hydrogenated solvents, and a range of specialty chemicals including isoprene and dicyclopentadiene. Key polymer outputs comprise polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), notably featuring the production of "green PE" derived from renewable resources. Furthermore, the segment produces polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and caustic soda, and provides electricity and crucial inputs to other industrial producers. Within the United States and Europe, Braskem's operations are centered on the manufacturing and sale of polypropylene, specifically across the U.S. and Germany. The Mexican segment is responsible for the production and distribution of ethylene, high-density polyethylene, and low-density polyethylene within Mexico. Beyond these segment-specific activities, the company is actively involved in the manufacturing, sale, import, and export of a broad spectrum of chemicals, petrochemicals, and fuels. It also generates, supplies, and sells vital utilities such as steam, water, compressed air, and various industrial gases, while offering other industrial services. Established in 1972, Braskem S.A. was originally known as Copene Petroquímica do Nordeste S.A. before adopting its current name in 2002. Its corporate headquarters are located in Camaçari, Brazil.
