Company overview

Equinor ASA, a prominent energy company founded in 1972 and headquartered in Stavanger, Norway, operates globally across the energy sector. Formerly known as Statoil ASA until its name change in May 2018, the company is engaged in the full lifecycle of petroleum and its derivatives—from exploration and production to transportation, refining, and marketing—as well as venturing into various other energy sources. Its extensive operations are structured into several key divisions: Exploration & Production (spanning Norway, international locations, and the USA), Marketing, Midstream & Processing, and Renewables. Equinor plays a significant role in the movement, processing, manufacturing, distribution, and trading of diverse oil and gas commodities, including crude oil, condensates, natural gas liquids, natural gas, and liquefied natural gas. Furthermore, the company participates in the markets for electricity and emission rights. It owns and operates a comprehensive infrastructure comprising refineries, terminals, processing facilities, and power generation plants. Equinor is also dedicated to developing innovative low-carbon solutions for its existing oil and gas activities. Demonstrating a commitment to a sustainable energy future, Equinor actively pursues renewable energy initiatives, such as developing wind power projects, implementing carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, and exploring other clean energy solutions. As of December 31, 2021, the company held substantial proved oil and gas reserves totaling 5,356 million barrels of oil equivalent. Equinor also cultivates strategic alliances, notably with Vårgrønn, RWE Renewables, and Hydro REIN.
